Planning Matters

The Society keeps a watching brief on all planning matters that might affect our two villages and their environs. If anything comes to notice such as inappropriate changes to or use of a building or maybe concern over particular aspects of a proposed development then contact is made with the planning authority. In some cases such as the Rivenhall Waste Facility representation is made in person and also in conjunction with other groups.
Local Plans
In recent years the local villages (including the Heritage Society) had been heavily engaged in the work to develop new Local Plans. These documents are the framework behind which future developments from homes to sports facilities, transport and even cemeteries are based.
Whilst the plans were adopted, the Governments desire for even more housing and the potential development of King Dene mean that the overarching Braintree Local Plan is having to be redrafted.
Kelvedon Against Urban Sprawl (KAUS)
KAUS is a group formed by villagers from Kelvedon, Feering and Coggeshall concerned about the major developments happening in our villages. The group are particularly concerned about the Kings Dene development which is being proposed and has in excess of 5,600 properties planned which would spread from Coggeshall Rd Kelvedon, to the Coggeshall borders and across as far as Rivenhall making it larger than Witham.
The scale of the development is even more concerning given the Governments cancellation of the A12 widening along with the A120 duelling also being removed from the potential road schemes list.
