Local Events
From time to time the Society will become aware of local events run by other organisations which we think may be of interest to our members and the details will be posted here.
Local Plan & Kings Dene – Public Meeting Thursday 6th November 7.30pm, Kelvedon United Reform Church
In early November members were alerted to a meeting of Braintree Council Local Plan Sub-Committee on 6 October when various potential development sites were to be considered.
Sadly, that meeting supported the proposals for massive development around Kelvedon and Feering – but rejected such development in many other locations.
In light of that decision, a Public Meeting hosted by our two District Councillors is to be held on Thursday 6th November at Kelvedon United Reform Church starting at 7.30pm.
We understand the meeting may also be livestreamed via Zoom for those who cannot attend, once we have any details they will be posted here.

Friends of St Mary’s Talk – ‘Paratroopers, Gliders and the SAS in Essex’ by former Army Officer Gordon Brown – Saturday 15th November at 7pm at St Mary’s Church
The Friends of St Mary’s have arranged a talk by former Army Officer Gordon Brown on ‘Paratroopers, Gliders and the SAS in Essex’ which will discuss the varuios (and often secret) Second World War operations based in our county.
Gordon is the Chair of Earls Colne Local History Museum and has undertaken extensive research on the top, much from family members and those involved.
Drinks and canapes will be served and a donation of £20 is suggested on the night, with proceeds going to the Friends of St Mary’s which preserves our wonderful church for future generations.
